Application Information

Students must apply to Weatherford College PRIOR to applying to the ADN Program. 

Visit the How to Apply to Weatherford College and complete the appropriate checklist to start the admission process.

Submit the Weatherford College application via the Coyote Recruit website and official transcripts to the Office of Student Services. Transcripts can be hand delivered in a sealed envelope or submitted electronically to Admissions.

Student must meet TSI requirements to be accepted to the ADN program. TSI can be taken at the WC Testing Center.

It is highly recommended that you consult with an academic advisor to review your transcripts prior to application.

The following documents are to be printed and put together with a manila envelope/folder/paper clip:

• Health & Human Sciences application 
• Copy of LVN license 
• Unofficial college transcripts of each institution you have attended (official college transcripts should be provided to Student Services with your Weatherford College application)
• HESI Admission Assessment Exam Cumulative Report
• Proof of first Hepatitis B immunization or positive titer
• IF APPLICABLE: Proof of Residency for applicants who reside in Parker, Wise, Palo Pinto, Hood, or Jack counties. If an applicant does not reside within these counties, they do not need to provide proof of residency. 
• IF APPLICABLE: An applicant whose native language is not English must submit an acceptable score on the TOEFL iBT by the end of the application period in which applicant is applying. Please review English Proficiency Requirements and Exemptions: Weatherford College Allied Health English Proficiency Procedure.

Application Requirements:

• Completion of all prerequisite courses: BIOL 2401, BIOL 2420, PSYC 2301, PSYC 2314 with a grade of C or better
• GPA of 2.5 or above on prerequisite courses (must be at least CCCA or CCBB)
• TSI Compliance
• HESI A2 score of ≥75 on Reading Comprehension section and Math section
• Science courses (BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, and BIOL 2420) must have been taken within 5 years prior to admission.  

If the applicant is currently practicing as an LVN, science courses older than 5 years may be awarded credit upon director's discretion. We recommend including a resume with work history to show evidence of practice. 

Vaccination Records

Weatherford College Nursing Students are not permitted to attend clinicals with vaccination waivers; there must be 100% compliance across vaccination requirements

English Proficiency

English Proficiency proof for applicants whose native language* (as defined below) is not English.

English proficiency can be shown in 3 ways:

1. TOEFL iBT exam results
2. an official transcript of an associate degree or baccalaureate degree awarded from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university
3. an official transcript showing 4 years of study at and a diploma from a U.S. high school

*A native language is a language that is acquired naturally during childhood and is usually spoken at home, as opposed to a language that is learned later in life, for example, as part of a person's formal education.

The nursing programs select their classes based on the following scoring methods listed below. This scoring system is used in an effort to be objective and to identify students with the clearest set of strengths to undertake the program. Students acquire points based on academic achievement and the entrance exam. Students satisfying entrance requirements with the highest cumulative scores are accepted until the available positions are filled. The final decision on all applications is subject to the Program Director's discretion.

Prereqs & Coreqs

Prerequisite courses (BIOL 2401, BIOL 2420, PSYC 2301, and PSYC 2314) and corequisite courses (BIOL 2402, ENGL 1301, and Humanities/LPC or Visual/Creative Arts elective) receive the following points: 

A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 1 point

Reminder: The cumulative GPA of the prerequisite courses must be a 2.5 GPA or above.

Work in Progresses: If a prereq or coreq class is work in progress during the application period, we will award 1 point for that on our scoring sheet. We will need to see the work in progress class (and final grades when complete) on a transcript. 

Entrance Exam (HESI)

Beginning October 2025, the Weatherford College Associate Degree Nursing program will be utilizing the HESI Admission Assessment Exam (A2) as an entrance exam.

Only applications that demonstrate a score of ≥75 in the Reading Comprehension and Math section will be considered. 

Points will be awarded based on the overall cumulative score (the average) from the Reading, Math, Anatomy & Physiology, Grammar, and Vocabulary sections. 

We do strongly recommend and advise our applicants to take the HESI at Weatherford College Testing Center; however, we will accept exam results that are less than 2 years old from other institutions.

The HESI A2 exam is computerized and covers A&P, Grammar, Math, Reading Comprehension, and Vocabulary. The cost is $60.00 through WC’s Testing Center and can be taken once every sixty days. 

Test takers must create an account through Elsevier before arriving for their appointment. Test takers will need to know their username and password on the day of the exam. 

Personal Interview

Only the top applicants who have the highest points will be selected for an interview. All applicants will be contacted via their Weatherford College student email. Interviews are scored. 

Bonus Point Opportunities

BSN-track courses:

Three bonus points will be given for completion of 15 or more hours towards the BSN-track courses with a “C” or better. 

Four bonus points will be given for completion of 25 or more hours towards the BSN-track courses with a “C” or better.

• ELECTIVE X3XX (Creative Arts), Elective X3XX (Humanities, Language, Philosophy, Culture)

NOTE: One of the ADN corequisite courses is either a Humanities/LPC or Creative Arts. Both are needed for the BSN track, so points will only be given if both courses are completed (one course as an ADN corequisite course, and the other towards the completion of the BSN-track).

Work in Progresses: For BSN track classes, we award points based on hours complete, so we do not count work in progress BSN track classes towards our scoring sheet.

Residency:

Residency points will be given as follows:

• 2 points - Parker or Wise County
• 1 point - Palo Pinto, Jack, or Hood County

Proof of residency will be required; however, it is not necessary to provide for those who do not reside in Parker, Wise, Palo Pinto, Hood, or Jack counties.

WC LVN Program:

Two bonus points if an applicant for the LVN-RN program completed their LVN program at Weatherford College.

Once selected for admission to the nursing program, the student will be required and MUST submit the following documents in pdf format:

• Complete a criminal background check and provide clearance from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) prior to the start of classes.
• Obtain a TB screen test or chest x-ray (must be current within one year).
• Obtain a urine drug screen.
• Have a back/spine examination by a licensed physical therapist or physician.
• Submit proof of up-to-date immunizations including TDAP (within the last ten years), MMR, influenza, and varicella.
• Provide proof for Hepatitis B vaccines (two or three dose series) or a positive Hepatitis B titer.
• Submit proof of major medical health insurance.
• Provide proof of current American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS CPR. Weatherford College Workforce Education’s CARE-HP10010 CPR-Basic Life Support course is $50.00
• Have a physical examination by a M.D., D.O., APRN, or PA
