FAQ

 

  • Programs tentatively start in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Class meets in-person on Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with online course work outside of the in-class portion.
  • There will also be one 8-hour additional session for clinical orientation.
  • In addition, you will attend a minimum of 96 hours of off-campus clinical rotations. These rotations will be scheduled outside of class time at a time agreed upon by the clinical sites.

Each program has specific open and close dates. They can be found at the top of the Application Process page.

You must take all of the EMSP classes at the same while attending the EMT program to be able to complete the program. 

Certificate Plan

Each student will be enrolled into a total of 3 courses:

  • EMSP 1501 (EMT-Basic)
  • EMSP 1391 (Special Topics in Emergency Medical Technology)
  • and EMSP 1260 (EMT Clinical).

The COVID-19 vaccine is highly recommended by the clinical sites affiliated with Weatherford College. Clinical sites retain the authority to enforce COVID-19 vaccination mandates, which can potentially affect student participation in clinical rotations and graduation requirements. Exemptions and accommodations for the COVID-19 vaccine requirement will not be available if clinical site mandates are implemented.

Yes, you must have TSI placement scores on file. There is no set score requirement to be accepted into the EMT Program. 

Yes, you must have:

  • American Heart Association BLS CPR card

All prospective EMT students must complete either:

  1. Anatomy and Physiology 1 (BIOL 2401) & 2 (BIOL 2402) or
  2. Hold a current Emergency Medical Responder (EMR/ECA) NREMT or Texas DSHS certification

As long as the courses meet the BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 credit per student services with the required grade.

Yes, students currently enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology courses that conclude after the EMT application deadline may apply tentatively, but acceptance will be revoked if the student does not meet the grade requirement by the program's orientation date. 

Yes, we have an evening course that will run every 8 weeks. 

No, Weatherford College does not allow for advanced placement or transfer credits from a previous EMT program.

Clinicals are held throughout mid semester outside of class time and are selected during a designated time by the student.

Due to the limit number of spots in each program our department utilizes a selection criteria process to select the top 24 candidates.

This program does not qualify for financial aid due to being a certificate program. There are scholarships and grants that can be found at the bottom of the page for students to use as aid.
