Since 1978, hundreds of donors have invested in the education of local students with gifts to the Weatherford College Foundation. These scholarships change lives, and we are grateful for the support of our alumni and friends.
WC gives scholarships from more than 200 named funds each year. For years, donors have set up scholarships in their names or in the names of loved ones.
If you are interested in establishing a scholarship, here’s some information to help you decide what will work best for you:
The WC Foundation will work with you to determine the criteria of eligible students, depending on your wishes. If you don’t have specific criteria in mind, then more deserving students will be eligible for your scholarship.
The foundation uses gifts of all sizes to help fund scholarships. Below are two of our more popular options:
- Endowed Scholarships: An endowment is a permanent fund whereby only the interest earned is used to fund scholarships. The minimum size of an endowment is $10,000, which may be gifted over a period of up to five years. Endowed scholarship funds will continue to exist at Weatherford College in perpetuity—as long as WC exists, your scholarship will be helping students.
- Annual (Non-Endowed) Scholarships: Rather than using only the interest earned, an annual or non-endowed fund uses the entire amount of the donor’s gift in the following academic year at the discretion of the donor. Some donors choose to give to the foundation each year to keep their scholarship going.
The typical WC Foundation scholarship awards $1,000 per fall or spring semester, and may be used to help pay for tuition, fees, books, and/or room and board. Our students fill out one online application and we match students to scholarships that fit their criteria.
Scholarship gifts are a wonderful way to leave a legacy. Thank you for considering a gift to help Weatherford College students!
