Weatherford College provides a clear path for students who want to build a career in the helping professions providing counseling and services to individuals, groups and families. Students can progress through levels of certificates, earn an A.A.S. or A.A. and proceed to a B.A.A.S. program within the field. Educational pathways include: recovery support peer specialist, substance abuse counselor, A.A.S. in Human Service Provider for positions in the field of human services and social work, and an AA with a concentration in psychology. Students can go on to earn a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Medical and Health Services Management.
This service-oriented path covers essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the counseling and social work field. Educational paths lead to Texas State Certifications in Recovery Support Peer Specialist, (RSPS), and registration with the state as a Counselor Intern, (CI), providing addiction counseling and leading to Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. The educational curriculum includes hands-on classroom experience and in-the-field, Practicums and Internships with direct client contact, equipping students for successful and fulfilling careers helping and serving others.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employement of substance abuse, behavioral disorder, and mental health counselors is projected to grow 19% from 2023 to 2033 while social workers is projected to grow 7%, both faster than the average for all occupations.
