Technical Standards

Listed below are some of the technical standards that sonographers and vascular technologists must be able to routinely perform. If an individual is unable to meet the technical standards, they will be referred to the ADA department.

  • Lift more than 50 pounds routinely 
  • Push and pull routinely 
  • Bend and stoop routinely 
  • Have full use of both hands, wrists and shoulders 
  • Distinguish audible sounds 
  • Adequately view sonograms, including color distinctions 
  • Work standing on their feet 80% of the time 
  • Interact compassionately and effectively with the sick or injured 
  • Assist patients on and off examining tables 
  • Communicate effectively with patients and other health care professionals 
  • Organize and accurately perform the individual steps in a sonographic procedure in the proper sequence

Application Requirements

The Vascular Certificate Program begins once a year and is a two-course program offered during Summer I and Summer II semesters, which requires online attendance, and scanning lab attendance. There is no clinical component to this course and you are not guaranteed eligibility to apply for the ARDMS RVT examination. All prospective students are required to meet the admission criteria.

This course is only offered to graduates of a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and/or credentialed sonographers who are interested in training in Vascular Sonography. In addition, all applicants should be free of illegal drug use, have no felony convictions, and be clear of any misdemeanor convictions other than minor traffic violations.

Application requirements include the following:

Enrollment is limited and competitive for Weatherford College Sonography program. All applicants must complete the following steps in applying for the program.

Step 1 – Enroll in WC

Step 2 – Apply to the Vascular Certificate Program between the first business day in December through the last business day in April.

Submit the following to Tammi White (located in the Jack Knight Building - Office 135):

  • Submit the Health & Human Sciences application.
     
  • Submit Transcripts (separate from the one sent to Weatherford College Registrar) demonstrating completion of an accredited Sonography Program and/or a copy of your RDMS, RVT, or RDCS credentials.
     
  • There are some important points to note:
     
    • The program is competitive. We accept a limited number of students.
       
    • You must apply to Weatherford College first.

    • The Vascular Certificate Program is a 6 SCH Certificate offered during the summer.
