WCIPC winner presents concert, master class
Carter Johnson, winner of the 2023 Weatherford College International Piano Competition and a doctoral student at Yale University, will host a master class at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, followed by a concert at 7 p.m. in the Alkek Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.
The concert will feature a selection of playful classics, reflecting Johnson's innovative approach to interpreting music as a “playground” for creative expression. This imaginative program will showcase pieces by Christopher Theofanidis, Schumann, Brahms and Beethoven, each offering unique challenges and opportunities for artistic exploration.
Johnson, a native of Vancouver Island, Canada, earned a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of British Columbia, a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in New York and a Master of Musical Arts from Yale.
“I am very happy to be able to return to Weatherford and present this program,” Johnson said. “I’m grateful for everyone who would like to come to listen! Please enjoy the music.”
