WC launches Weekend College

Weatherford College will launch Weekend College this fall, offering Friday and Saturday classes designed for students balancing work, family and other commitments.
The pilot initiative expands when students can take courses while maintaining the same instruction, expectations and academic pathways available during the traditional Monday through Thursday week.
“Weekend College creates new opportunities for working adults, parents, and career changers in our community to take that next step toward a degree or career on a schedule that works for their lives, with the same academic rigor and expectations as every WC student,” said Dr. Scott Tarnowieckyi, acting executive vice president of academic services.
Weekend College includes two primary components: expanded Friday offerings across core curriculum, workforce training and engineering, and a structured Saturday course sequence focused on high-demand health sciences prerequisites that many students prefer to take in person.
Saturday courses offered across fall, spring and summer terms include anatomy and physiology, microbiology, statistics and Composition I. These courses are delivered in hybrid formats that combine online instruction with in-person labs or classroom time, providing hands-on learning for subjects often considered more challenging. While designed with future health sciences students in mind, all Saturday courses are core curriculum classes and are open to students in any program area.
Students who complete the three-semester Saturday sequence can position themselves to apply for WC’s competitive health care associate degree programs. Other prerequisite courses remain available online, allowing students to build schedules that best fit their needs.
Students enroll through the standard registration process, pay no additional fees and may combine weekend, weekday and online courses. Course offerings are expected to grow as the pilot continues and demand becomes clearer.
