Weatherford College will host its annual Interdisciplinary Academic Conference centered on professional development and community engagement on April 3-4, focusing on the theme "Challenge and Change."

The conference, held on the Weatherford College campus, will feature a variety of workshops, presentations and networking opportunities designed to foster growth and adaptation in a rapidly evolving world.

"This year's theme, 'Challenge and Change,' reflects the dynamic environment we all operate within," said Associate Professor John Flanagan, event organizer. "We are excited to provide a platform for attendees to learn, collaborate, and develop the skills necessary to thrive in the face of constant evolution."

The opening keynote speaker, Weatherford Mayor Paul Paschall, will share his vision for Weatherford’s future, drawing on his extensive business and community leadership experience to address current challenges and pave the way for Weatherford’s prosperity.

Breakout sessions include:
  • German Experiences in Policing – Gain unique insights into international law enforcement practices with Major Christian Redl and Captain Patrick Hutter as they detail the comprehensive operations of the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters, covering everything from specialized units to critical event management.
  • The Common Schools to Contemporary Classrooms: The Evolution of U.S. Public Education as a Unifying Institution – Explore the evolution of U.S. public education, from its foundational ideals to modern reforms, and understand how it has adapted to societal changes while striving to unify and provide opportunity.
  • From President Ronald Reagan to President Donald Trump (2.0): Shifts in U.S. National Security Strategy – Delve into the shifting priorities of U.S. national security by examining how presidential administrations have redefined the National Security Strategy in the post-Cold War era.
  • Computers as Critics Revisited: A.I. Tools for Analyzing Literary Texts – Discover how cutting-edge AI tools are revolutionizing literary analysis, offering new insights while reshaping the role of human interpretation in understanding texts.
  • Economic Challenges & Changes: Inflation – Understand the complexities of recent inflation trends, from pandemic origins to current management strategies, and explore the delicate balance between demand, supply, and monetary policy.
The conference is open to the public. A full schedule is available here.

“Weatherford College is committed to providing valuable resources and opportunities for its students and the broader community,” Flanagan said. “This conference serves as a testament to that commitment, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.”
