WC fine arts hosts student art show, alumni big band concert
Weatherford College Fine Arts invites the community to enjoy an evening celebrating the visual and musical arts on Thursday, May 1, in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
The evening will start with the bi-annual student art show, followed by the "Generations" alumni big band concert. Both events are free and open to the public.
Student artists will be available to discuss their work in Texas Hall from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This semester's exhibition features student work from introductory and intermediate courses in drawing, design, painting and digital media.
"My Painting II students deserve special recognition for challenging themselves with larger-than-life compositions," said art instructor Rebecca James. “All students have demonstrated exceptional dedication, investing significant time beyond class hours to develop their artistic skills.”
Following the art show, at 7 p.m., the "Generations" alumni big band concert will take place in the Alkek Fine Arts Center theatre.
Jazz director Fredrick Sanders said the concert aims to celebrate the rich history of WC jazz studies by bridging the gap between past and present. The performance will bring together alumni from the past 40 years of the program's existence alongside current members of the Weatherford College Jazz Orchestra.
The program for the evening will feature a dynamic combination of classic material along with new pieces contributed by present WCJO members.
