WC expands graduate school pathway with new ETAMU agreement
A Weatherford College bachelor's degree is increasingly becoming the start of a longer
educational journey, not the finish line.
The college has further expanded opportunities for students seeking graduate education through a new partnership with East Texas A&M University, creating a direct pathway from WC's Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Organizational Leadership to East Texas A&M's online Master of Science in Organizational Leadership.
The agreement provides qualifying students with a seamless transition into graduate school while reinforcing WC’s growing strategy of connecting bachelor's degree programs to affordable, flexible opportunities beyond graduation. Students can complete their bachelor's degree at Weatherford College and continue directly into a fully online master's program without relocating, disrupting careers or leaving their communities.
East Texas A&M's master's program is delivered entirely online through seven-week sessions and can be completed in approximately 12 months. The program costs approximately $2,000 per session, offering working adults an accessible path to advanced credentials and leadership opportunities.
WC President Dr. Tod Allen Farmer and East Texas A&M President Dr. Mark Rudin signed the memorandum of understanding Aug. 12 at East Texas A&M's Dallas site.
Under the agreement, students who earn the BAAS in Organizational Leadership from WC and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in their final 60 semester credit hours are guaranteed admission to East Texas A&M's graduate program, provided they meet all university admission requirements and deadlines.
Dr. Mark Pullam, WC program chair for Organizational Leadership, said agreements like this send a powerful message to students: their bachelor’s degree can be both a destination and a beginning.
“Students who once may have viewed the completion of a bachelor’s degree as the final step in their educational journey can now see a clearly connected opportunity leading toward graduate education,” Pullam said. “This partnership helps students see what’s possible.”
Farmer said the partnership provides students with an opportunity to continue building their credentials without sacrificing convenience or affordability.
"We were looking for a prestigious university that matches our mission and values, and we know that when we look for quality, we look to The Texas A&M University System, and specifically East Texas A&M," Farmer said. "This is a perfect match for us and our students."
Farmer added that ETAMU’s graduate program in Organizational Leadership stood out primarily for its “student-friendly delivery system,” which students can take online at their own pace.
“It’s very affordable, it’s high-quality, it’s convenient. It checks all the boxes for our students,” Farmer said.
The pathway arrives as demand continues to grow for leadership skills in business, education, healthcare, government and nonprofit organizations. Organizational leadership programs focus on developing professionals who can lead teams, manage change, communicate effectively and solve workplace challenges.
According to Dr. April Sanders, dean of East Texas A&M's College of Innovation and Design, the partnership reflects a shared commitment to helping students reach the next stage of their educational and professional goals.
"I feel like we serve a similar type of learner," Sanders said. "We also have a similar view of how we want to assist students and help them become the best versions of themselves."
The partnership is already generating interest. College leaders have identified six WC students who are preparing to begin the master's degree process during the upcoming academic year.
