WC board approves 2025-26 budget, tax rate
August 22, 2025
The Weatherford College Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 2025-26 budget
and property tax rate during a special meeting on Thursday.
No one spoke during the public hearing on the tax rate that was held before the board
took action.
The approved budget totals just over $99 million, with $26.5 million allocated from
property tax revenue. They also maintained the Parker County property tax rate at
10.6087 cents per $100 valuation, the same rate as the previous two years.
The WC board has either lowered or kept the tax rate flat for eight out of the past
nine years.
"As you know, property taxes in our county can be a contentious thing, but I wanted
to point out just a few things in regard to the Weatherford College property tax rate
that I think are important for people to remember," said Doug Dowd, board vice chair.
"The first would be that on the average property tax bill in Parker County, the amount
that represents the Weatherford College portion on average is only about seven percent
of your total property tax bill, which is very low compared to many of the other taxing
entities in our county."
Dowd added that out of all Texas community colleges, Weatherford College has the 11th
lowest property tax rate, currently at 10.609 cents, compared to the state average
of 16.06 cents.
"I think we've done a very good job of maintaining a low tax base for our citizens,
but also maximizing the value of every dollar that we collect from our property tax
owners," he said. "I think you should always look at it from what kind of value you're
receiving for the taxes that you pay. And I think Weatherford College does an outstanding
job of maximizing those tax dollars for what we collect."
