“The Wizard of Oz” debuts at WC this Friday
Weatherford College Fine Arts presents the Alkek Community Musical production of “The Wizard of Oz” July 19-21 and 26-28.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online here or at the box office in the Alkek Fine Arts Center. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
This delightful adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale brings all the most recognizable songs and moments from the 1939 film to life onstage. When Dorothy Gale is swept away by a tornado from her Kansas farm to the magical land of Oz, she encounters many whimsical characters – good witches, bad witches, animals that talk and scarecrows that walk.
In order to find her way home, Dorothy must follow the Yellow Brick Road to meet the Wizard in Emerald City. Along the way, she makes new friends – but also braves many dangers, such as the Wicked Witch of the West.
This show is suitable for all ages and includes special effects and a live dog in the role of Toto.
This adaptation of The Wizard of Oz features music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, with background music by Herbert Stothart. Produced by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
