Spring is Coming
I find myself growing weary of the cold February temperatures. The gloomy days and the cold nights are quickly growing old! Fortunately, spring is coming!
Spring is a miraculous time of birth and renewal. Soon the buds on the trees will be transforming into fresh new leaves. Beautiful flowers and blossoms will begin blooming and filling the air with their pleasant fragrances. The yellow daffodils and the pink cherry blossoms will dot the landscape with beautiful splashes of color. Baby birds will be hatching in their nests and crying for food while their parents eagerly gather their meals. Canadian honker geese will make their presence known from above as they begin to migrate north. The grass will turn green, and the mighty sun will shine once more and spread her warmth across the land.
Weatherford College is also experiencing a birth and renewal of sorts. No longer a small, rural institution, WC has record high enrollment and is the fasting growing college in the region. Our bachelor’s degrees, new associate degrees, and certification programs offer students more educational opportunities than ever before. Students now have access to affordable excellence at a variety of educational levels. The WC nursing program recently had a 100% student pass rate on the state licensure examination. That program is just one of many examples of academic excellence. Our students are succeeding at higher levels than ever before.
Building on our national championship in women’s rodeo, our athletic programs are also savoring the sweet taste of success. Baseball has back-to-back conference championships and recently made an appearance in the world series. We have sent 41 former Coyote baseball players to professional baseball. Volleyball has won three consecutive conference championships and has made the national tournament the last two years. Women’s tennis, men’s tennis, men’s golf, and women’s golf have all been nationally ranked. WC produced a record number of All-Americans and Academic All-American students last year. Most importantly, our student athletes are succeeding in the classrooms at higher levels than our general student population. Go COYOTES!
Not to be outdone, our performing and fine arts are reaching new heights. Four choir students recently won prestigious awards. Our visual arts programs are exploding! The 2025 Weatherford College International Piano Competition has 207 pianists from 25 countries around the world competing for the championship right here in Weatherford, Texas! To say that our arts programs are on fire would be a gross understatement.
Despite all of these amazing WC accomplishments, the best is yet to come! Our greatest days as an institution dedicated to serving students through our culture of caring lie just ahead. Spring is coming!
