EDITORIAL

Thanks to the generosity of our community stakeholders and the hard work of countless dedicated employees, the students of Weatherford College have been blessed with a myriad of new opportunities.

Chief among these new educational opportunities are a multitude of new workforce and academic programs. Five years ago, WC offered zero bachelor’s degrees. We now have approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to award five, including our latest bachelor’s degree in computer science. These high value, high demand bachelor’s degrees may be earned for about a third of the price of the most affordable university-based bachelor’s degree program. There has also been an unprecedented expansion of high demand workforce programs. In as little as 16 weeks, students may earn a credential in a variety of fields which will get them a job that pays family sustaining wages. Collectively, these new educational opportunities are expanding the pathway to the American Dream like never before.

Students also have access to financial assistance like never before. An astounding 85 percent of Weatherford College students now receive grants or scholarships! Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the caring work of our employees, students now have access to more financial recourses than ever before. If a student is willing to go to class and study hard, he or she will earn a high-quality education at Weatherford College.

We have also partnered with many prestigious universities across the great State of Texas and beyond to provide our students with new transfer opportunities. Graduates of one of Weatherford College’s five bachelor’s degree programs may now seamlessly transfer into partner institutions’ master’s and doctoral programs. In some cases, there are tuition discounts, preferential access to financial aid, and reserved spots for Weatherford College graduates. In some academic fields, WC graduates may earn graduate degrees from online programs without ever leaving our area.

Our students also now have access to beautiful new facilities. Thanks to the generosity of Vickie and Jerry Durant, we recently opened a truly world class residence hall. A partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission and Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas resulted in our beautiful new Emerging Technologies and Workforce Building. Plans are also in development for additional new high-tech facilities.

Students have more opportunities than ever before at Weatherford College. It is truly a great place! And thanks to you…it is getting even better!
