Medical City offers $7 million facility to WC
The Weatherford College Board of Trustees' June board meeting began with a swearing-in ceremony and concluded with the announcement of one of the largest gifts in the college's history.
New board member Tom Vick and existing board member Mary Beth Dennie both took the oath of office as the first item of action. Both ran unopposed in the previous election cycle.
Following the executive session, the board approved a gift agreement with Medical City Healthcare to take possession of a $7 million building and land in Wise County, contingent upon a 90-day due diligence period to ensure final acceptance of the gift is in the best interest of the college.
The donation includes a 100,000-square-foot, three-story medical facility on 16 acres in Bridgeport. The building was formerly part of Medical City Decatur and most recently served as a training facility for Medical City Healthcare.
The new space will potentially allow for expanded classrooms, advanced simulation labs and clinical training opportunities for students pursuing careers in health science professions.
“We are profoundly grateful to Medical City Healthcare for this extraordinary gift,” said WC President Tod Allen Farmer. “This facility will allow Weatherford College to elevate our health science programs to an entirely new level, providing our students with resources and opportunities to succeed while addressing a vital need in our community. It is a win for our students, our region and the future of healthcare in North Texas.”
