Great People
We live in a culture that is inspired by great people. Texans are some of the hardest working, most industrious people to be found in any culture. I have the great privilege of interacting with many of these amazing individuals on a daily basis. Texans are nothing short of awe inspiring.
Thomas Edison wrote, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” He obviously was not referencing Texans. The rugged, can-do attitude of our citizens has lifted generation after generation out of poverty and helped them realize the American Dream. Whether you are talking about ranchers, farmers, successful business owners, or dedicated public servants, our society is made up of individuals who simply work longer, harder, and smarter than the competition.
A strong work ethic builds character. So many so called “average” people through unrelenting tenacity have overcome tremendous obstacles to accomplish their objectives. In the process of this resolute hard work, individuals become tougher and more confident. After a seemingly endless stream of such challenges, these “average” people become anything but average. They develop the kind of inner strength that allows them to conquer the types of adversity that would cause many people to crumble.
We are surrounded by such great people. Our dynamic community members, generous philanthropists, and inspirational entrepreneurs are just a few examples of greatness. Our first responder community, educators, and civil servants make our region the greatest place on earth to work and raise a family. Even our retirement community exemplifies greatness. Our retirees’ dedicated service to various civic organizations and to their local churches is exceptional, not to mention the mentoring they provide to our younger generations. Collectively, our great people make our home an even better place to live.
Weatherford College is at the epicenter of our human greatness. For over 155 years, WC has been challenging minds and producing citizens of character. Today we have the most competent team that has ever been assembled to meet the higher education needs of our rapidly growing society. From hard working faculty and staff, to dedicated community stakeholders and philanthropists, our great people have made Weatherford College what it is today.
I do not know what the future holds for our great society, but what I do know is that our great people will continue to lift both our institutions and our future generations to new heights. The best is yet to come!
