Generations Jazz Orchestra brings alumni, students together at WC

Weatherford College will bring together four decades of jazz musicians for the 2026 Generations Jazz Orchestra concert on Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
Under the direction of Fredrick Sanders, alumni from the past 40 years will perform alongside current Weatherford College Jazz Orchestra members in a program blending classic jazz repertoire with newer works studied by today’s students.
The evening’s repertoire includes “Triste,” arranged by Kurt Wilson, “Big Dipper,” arranged by Thad Jones, “Manteca,” arranged by G. Fuller, “Watermelon Man,” arranged by Herbie Hancock and “In a Sentimental Mood,” arranged by Duke Ellington.
The Generations Jazz Orchestra will feature alumni performers on bass, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, drums and vocals, highlighting the long-standing impact of the jazz program at WC.
Current WCJO members participating in the concert include Kian J. Shallenberger, Helen Del Castillo, Bethany F. Sessums, Jeremy Alexander Korum, Brooklyn Carney, Wyatt‑Murphey Gage, Gustavo Eduardo Paredes, Latavia J. Brown, Gabriel James Cechura, Theodore Lewis Cook, Jacobo Rojas and Tanner D. Taylor.
The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
