Decorated Army colonel to speak at WC Veterans Day event
Weatherford College will host its annual Veterans Day Observance at 11:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Ed Kramer Veterans Flag Plaza. The community is invited to attend this event honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
This year's ceremony features guest speaker Lisa Winegar, a highly decorated US Army Colonel and current WC social science instructor. Colonel Winegar had a distinguished military career, including commanding military intelligence brigades and battalions in South Korea, Italy and Germany as well as three tours at the Pentagon and two combat deployments to the Middle East.
Throughout her service, Colonel Winegar earned numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal and many more.
“We are honored to have Colonel Winegar as our guest speaker for this year's Veterans Day Ceremony," said Tammy Peters, event organizer. "Her impressive military career and dedication to service exemplify the values we celebrate on this important day.”
The ceremony will be emceed by Dr. Lauren Tidwell, WC’s dean of humanities and science and US Army veteran, with remarks given by Scott Butler, WC alumnus and US Marine veteran. Current WC student veterans will present the US military flags.
The Kramer Veterans Flag Plaza is located on the Weatherford College campus at 225 College Park Drive. The plaza is on the south side of the Academic Building, east of the Doss Student Center. The event is free and open to the public. Visitor parking is available in the North Lot off East Park Avenue.
