Comic espionage tale “The 39 Steps” on stage this weekend
Weatherford College Fine Arts presents “The 39 Steps,” a film noir/mystery comedy production, this Friday and Saturday in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. each night, and admission is free.
“In a most comic fashion, we see a man unwittingly caught in a web of espionage and conspiracy,” said director James Brownlee, “and it is up to him to thwart the nefarious doings of a Third Reich spy ring known only as The 39 Steps.”
The cast includes Luke Neumann as Richard Hannay, Mia Currie as Pamela Edwards, Nickoli Wooten as Professor Jordan and Maryn Milligan as Annabella Schmidt.
The story, set in Britain in the mid-1930s, was originally a novel by John Buchan and was made into a film by Alfred Hitchcock in the 1930s, and the play draws from both sources.
The play is appropriate for all ages; however, there are two loud gunshots.
