88.5 FM “The Coyote” to be off air temporarily for upgrade
In order to boost its coverage area and overall signal strength, radio station KMQX/88.5 FM “The Coyote” will be off the air beginning Monday, Feb. 19, for several days. The Weatherford College-owned radio station will be installing a new antenna on an existing tower to greatly improve its signal.
The station will continue to broadcast on 102.5 FM in the Weatherford area and on the station’s smartphone app while the repairs to 88.5 FM are made.
“We are so excited about this new antenna,” said Dave Cowley, general manager of “The Coyote.” “This will nearly double the power output of 88.5 FM. Listeners in Parker, Wise, Palo Pinto, Hood and Jack counties should notice a difference when we come back on the air. It’s a game-changer for the station.”
WC purchased the station in 2022 and has been adding listeners and sponsors at a rapid rate since the launch.
“We’re blessed to have great support from our sponsors and from the college,” Cowley said. “This new antenna will take the station to another level, and we can’t wait.”
The station currently carries “The Morning Show” weekdays from 6 to 9 a.m. and will launch an afternoon show in the spring. The 24-hour station also features local sports play-by-play, special community events and other programming in a unique classic rock/country music format.
The station’s free smartphone app is available on Apple devices in the App Store and on Google Play for Android devices. Listeners can also stream the station on desktops via wc.edu/TheCoyote.
